Pictures coming soon!!!
Kennedy and her grampy recently celebrated their shared birthday – she’s two and he’s sixty-five! I love that they have this special day in common. It just adds to the very close bond that they’ve formed since she was born.
Jake and I gave her a Sesame Street card and some presents first thing in the morning. She got a tea set, shopping basket and some fruit to “slice” with a wooden knife. One of her teachers told us that there is a similar job at school that she loves. We had to immediately have a tea party and then tote it all over to grampy’s house.
I joined Kennedy and grampy at The Little Gym for class, which was fun even though Kennedy pretty much wanted nothing to do with the group activities or skills for the day. Later we all went out to dinner at East-West Connection, where Kennedy enjoyed one of her favorite foods – rice! Then we went to the Utah gymnastics meet to see the Red Rocks. She’s done so well at the meets this season, typically staying focused and content to sit on our laps through at least three and a half rotations and stay up way past her bed time. She loves to look for the “chicken” (Swoop) and point him out to everyone sitting near us.
Saturday we cleaned and decorated our house for a family party. The Nelsons came over for dinner (kebabs and…more rice!) and cupcakes. Kennedy and Huck seemed to be having an eating contest. She’d ask for more rice, and then he would. She’d ask for more strawberries, and then he would.
Sunday we took advantage of the clean house and party decorations to host my family for more birthday party fun. Mimi and Kathy were in Coronado, so it was a smaller group than usual. After dinner and cupcakes we opened gifts, and by this time Kennedy was really getting into the idea of presents! She was so excited to open each one, and then they all had to be removed from any packaging and investigated/read/played with. Grampy got his present from us on the actual birthday, but he got to open a few more things too. He’s making good use of his new flip video camera already. We knew he would, and that we would definitely benefit from his filming!
Kennedy loves all of her birthday gifts from the amazing weekend! Thank you to everyone for your generosity and love. Here’s what else she got: a big wheel, Fancy Nancy books, dinosaur books, two puzzles, trains and tracks, doctor’s kit, a dress, money, and variations on the kitchen/food theme (which was totally unplanned and amazingly nothing was duplicated even though we all seemed to shop at the same store) – vegetables, more fruit and bread to slice, cookies to slice and bake, and pots and pans. Monday she’s taking a poster to school with pictures of her as a baby and they will sing to her, but Tuesday it is back to reality.
