Saturday night we had a great party at Beth and Ira's. We had sandwiches, salads and fruit and Beth made an amazing cake - strawberry shortcake (the doll, and I guess it was really more for Eliza than for me.) Kennedy was so funny; she asked if she could have a bag of chips instead of cake and ice cream.

The main activity was tie dying shirts and sun dresses. It's always fun to do creative projects like this. I love how my pink and orange spiral shirt turned out and Kennedy's pink and purple sun dress is adorable. Macy's was supposed to be turquoise and yellow, but it mostly looks green with no obvious pattern, oh well she still looks cute in it. Jake made a very cool shirt with a skull on it.
I've been trying to get my life together and do better with keeping the house clean and organized. I got some great gifts to help with this - containers and spice racks for the pantry, a new job tracking system and a subscription to Bon Appetite magazine. Eliza, the 5-year-old, asked for "things with little pieces."

Sunday night we had dinner at my parents' house. I requested halibut, sweet potatoes and a green veggie - it was all delicious! After cupcakes and presents (money and a cute new purse) I was taking some pictures of Macy - she was having a great time pulling a ribbon off of her great uncle Tim's head. Kennedy decided to join me where I was standing by the window behind an end table, and somehow the table tipped over. I instinctively grabbed for the lamp on the table, which I saved, but in the process a glass broke and the edge of the table landed on my foot. Thankfully Kennedy was not hurt at all because it was a very heavy table with a glass top and marble base. As soon as it was lifted off my foot, there was an obvious dent, which then quickly swelled up to look like there was a golf ball under my skin. I hobbled over to a chair to sit down and cry. It hurt - a lot!
Someone got me a bag of frozen corn, and Jake drove like a mad man to get me to the emergency room. During my intake, I could tell that the ER staff didn't think it was such a big deal...until they moved my make-shift ice pack and got a look at my foot. The doctor twisted, pushed, and poked, but she didn't think that it was broken. They took x-ray pictures to confirm that it wasn't broken, but there seems to be a small chip in one of my ankle bones (probably from an earlier injury - when I crashed my bike about seven years ago?) I got a tetanus shot, and several offers for some serious pain pills. I declined, sticking with Tylenol, and left with a prescription for something stronger, just in case. Doctor's orders for recovery are to stay off the foot for the next few days, keep it elevated above my heart, and ice for 20 minutes every few hours. Then in two days, I'm supposed to switch to warm compresses instead of the ice.
I did take Monday off from work, and mostly did a good job following the instructions. Tuesday I couldn't stand another day of sitting and doing nothing, so I went back to work. I decided not to take pictures of the swelling or the amazing bruise now covering my entire foot.
P.S. And now it's two weeks later, and it is still so bruised and tender. Most of the swelling has gone down, except for one small lump in the middle of my foot.
